2017-2018
Dear Parents,
Welcome to third grade! I hope everyone is as excited as I am for a new adventure in learning! I love teaching third graders! Articles state that third graders are not as timid and are more outgoing than second graders. I certainly can agree to that! But, they are also concerned with fairness and justice. They are also known to have a lot of positive energy and be very enthusiastic, willing to try just about everything. That fits my personality to a T! They sometimes become overly ambitious and tend to bite off more than they can chew. Yep, that’s another trait of mine. Third graders are a perfect fit for me for these are the kinds of personalities I LOVE to teach!
For those of you who don’t know me, I was born and raised in a a small town in Florida. I grew up on a lake swimming and water skiing around alligators! Believe it or not, I met my husband at the age of 26 when a very smart fourth grade student of mine invited me home for dinner. Little did I know at the time that she was fixing me up with her uncle; seven months later we were married! We have a 34 year-old fun, outgoing, creative daughter and a 30 year- old son who loves to compete in weightlifting, bowling, and basketball through Special Olympics. We enjoy spending as much time as we can with our children.
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at University of South Florida. I have been teaching for 36 years in grades 1 through 5. During this time, I have taught in Florida, Alaska, and of course Minnesota.
I have taught at St. Wenceslaus for eighteen years in second and third grade. I really LOVE working with the children and parents of this school. I am proud to reveal to others that my years of teaching at St. Wenc have been the most rewarding years of my teaching career. Teaching in a faith-filled community with a close knit of teachers, staff, and school families makes me feel very blessed. The parents are strong supporters to the children, teachers, and the school. I look forward to coming to school each day.
My teaching philosophy is that I believe all children can learn. My many years of experience have awakened my sensitivities to the unique individuals in our society. I work hard in understanding the students’ needs and learning styles and rates in which each of them learns by. I welcome the challenge in instilling a love of learning and a belief of capability in each student.
I look forward to spending the next nine months challenging your child spiritually and intellectually and growing together with you and your children. We are in store for a fantastic year and lots of learning! Through the cooperative partnership of our parents, our teachers and our staff, our faith and God as our guide, our children will be able to achieve their own potential and learn to challenge themselves.
Birthdays - Students may celebrate their birthdays by bringing in treats for the class. We have 18 students. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate it on her/his half birthday. Please let me know if your child has any food allergies.
Show and Tell – Our class will not be having “Show and Tell.” However, if a child has something special to show from a special event, she/he may share it during snack time.
Snack Time – Please remember to send only nutritious snacks to school. Too many sweets can drag the body down. Also, studies show that children should get at least 10 hours of sleep each night for them to function properly. We don’t want anything interfering with those brain cells!
Water Bottles – I encourage water bottles when it is especially hot. However, the water fountain is just around the corner for when it gets cooler.
Aide Time – We are very fortunate to have Linda Smisek assisting the students in our classroom four days a week. I’m also happy to reveal that Kathy O’Neil will also be assisting in our classroom every Tuesday for half a day. Her heart is still filled with love for kids and being in a classroom. I’m happy to be working with these two wonderful ladies.
Notes from Home – If you make alternate plans after school for your child, please remember to send a written note for the office. DO NOT write the note to the office in your child’s planner because then I have to tear off the corner of the page and send it in. However, it is a good idea to do both. The one in the planner can be a reminder for your child. If you are e-mailing a change of plans for your child, make sure it goes directly to Mrs. Hartman. You may also send me one, too.
Parent Volunteers – I need a few weeks before I start with consistent, weekly volunteers so the students and I can get used to our new routines and schedules. However, I will be asking for volunteers during the first and/or second week of school to help out with our summer writing project.
Feel free to e-mail me with questions and concerns, but also any funny stories, success stories or even cute things your child may say about school.
Wishing you and your child a blessed school year,
Mrs. Rosen
