Spotlight on Religion
The third grade book is called Christ Our Life. We Believe It tells us that this year is an important year for your child’s spiritual development. The We Believe text is designed to help your child learn that God calls each one of us to faith and eternal life with him as members of the faith community, the Church. Your child will also learn that the gifts and talents we receive from God are part of what makes each of us unique and that we are meant to use those gifts and talents for the good of all.
The focus of this year’ study is faith, which is belief and trust in a God who knows us, loves us, and calls us by name. Through events from both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible, students will learn of God’s saving love for his people and the truths of our faith. The goal is for your child to respond with a trusting, joyful relationship with God and to accept all that God has taught us.
The children will also learn the story of Jesus: how he was sent by God to save us and was faithful to God’s plan. They will understand that after Jesus ascended into heaven, he sent his Holy Spirit to protect and guide the Church.
The children will learn that even though Jesus ascended into heaven, we celebrate his presence through the sacraments, which help us answer our call to be holy. They are reminded that God forgives us through the Sacrament of Reconciliation and strengthens our faith through the Sacrament of the Eucharist. By the gift of sacraments, God shares the wondrous life of grace, and through his grace we can find our true happiness and satisfaction.
