Spotlight on Homework
Homework is a vital part of each student’s learning. It helps to reinforce the concepts taught in class and develop good study habits and responsibility to be a good student. The homework is mostly a follow up from what has been taught in class. Homework is to be completed neatly and carefully in pencil only. I strongly encourage you to check over your child’s homework for understanding and reinforcement before your child brings it back to school. Go over the missed problems with your child so he/she can be ready to move on to the next lesson in class with confidence. This is such a noticeable self-esteem boost for your child when she/he knows the homework is correct. Homework will be returned to correct mistakes. Please let me know if homework gets to be too difficult or overwhelming for your child. I only give math homework if I feel the class needs extra practice in a concept. Sometimes I will write “parent signature” on the homework sheet because it is a more difficult concept or a review sheet for a unit test. Feel free to write any questions or concerns you may have on his/her homework paper or in the assignment book. Encourage your child to HELP be responsible in obtaining your signature or initials for the assignment book. Your child should have a pencil or pen right there for you to be ready to sign. I check each day for a signature or initials and any comments you may have written. Remember…parents are teachers, too!
